Is it me or is HMRC turning into a helpful pussycat?

In common with most law abiding citizens I quake in my boots at the sight of a manila envelope with that dreaded acronym landing on my doormat! But, as an Enterprise First business adviser I frequently find myself having conversations with clients about how helpful HMRC are and what wonderful free resources they can take advantage of (as long as you use Google to provide the path to the information you want on the government website of course!!).
One of my favourites are the wonderful free webinars Self-employment and HMRC: getting started – How to tell HMRC you’re self-employed, what National Insurance you’ll pay, how to keep records and budget for your first tax bill. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/webinars-emails-and-videos-if-youre-self-employed
But, as if that was not enough I find we are now being treated to a new app launched by HMRC which provides easier access to a wide range of digital help and support for businesses. This app gives access to:
• live webinars and recorded videos
• information and services on taxes
• e-learning for employers and self employed
• signing up to our email alerts
• HMRC Business Help Twitter account
• Commercially developed Record Keeping apps – including the tax calculator
• HMRC forms
The “HMRC App” can be downloaded free of charge by searching “HMRC” from:
• Apple App Store
• Google Play Store
Now, that’s a whole lot nicer than those scary manila envelopes isn’t it!!??
