Viewpoint Video’s: Lights, Camera, Action!
Aylesbury based young entrepreneur, David Humpston is hoping his camera company ‘Viewpoint Video’s Ltd’ will expand after receiving a loan of £9,750 from the Virgin Start-Up Loan scheme. David launched his business in August 2013.
Viewpoint Videos Ltd uses high tech digital camera equipment to record customers during an experience event; flying in a helicopter or competing in a go-kart race for example. The unique selling point of the business is that it allows people to record and view their own action movie and share with one click online.
David has a rather unique background. He used to compete professionally as a junior rally driver and was highly successful, reaching the top tier. Unfortunately rallying is very expensive and in 2012 David had to stop due to a lack of sponsorship.
However he is a highly ambitious individual and did not let this set back affect him. He decided to set up his own company. His rallying exploits had exposed him to digital camera technology and he identified this as a great opportunity and decided to start his business.
He says: “I started the business because I wanted autonomy and to be able to create something that people would value. As a teenager living at home financial independence is highly appealing!”
David realised he would need further investment in Viewpoint Video’s to help it grow and develop. He discovered the Virgin Start-Up Loan scheme through a Richard Branson tweet.
The Virgin Start-Up Loan scheme is another of Sir Richard Branson’s ventures. He has long championed small businesses and start-ups, seeing both as vital to the economy and employment. The ambition behind the scheme is to provide budding entrepreneurs with the opportunity of turning their business idea into reality.
David applied for the scheme at the beginning of July.
He says: “I applied because I needed capital in order to grow the business concept and expand. The Virgin Start-Up loan scheme provided an ideal solution and offered a great low rate of interest.”
He was very happy with the service he received on the scheme from both Virgin and south east delivery partner Enterprise First, who provided him with a business adviser. David was particularly pleased by the speed of the scheme. He says: “I applied at the beginning of July and heard just over three weeks later that I had been successful. The whole process was really quick and very good”.
