A FORMER Royal Engineer who was made redundant is bouncing back with the help of a business grant.
Peter Hegarty, 38, has started his own property maintenance company with business advice from Enterprise First and a £1,000 cash boost from Medway Council. The former sapper from Gillingham worked for 20 years in construction but lost his job in June.
Now he has started T and M Property Maintenance with his wife Maxine, 39, and hopes to take on six staff by next year.
Peter said: “This business start-up grant will really help me get my business off the ground. It will help me afford the costs associated with setting up such as marketing and administration.
“I hope to employ four of the planned six staff by April. So hopefully we will be able to help other people in Medway by creating work for them.”
The newly-formed firm will carry out small building work and repairs as well as decorating. Maxine will head the cleaning arm of the operation, doing domestic and window washing and garden maintenance – something she has done for more than 15 years.
In conjunction with business advice provided by Enterprise First, the council’s Business Start-Up Grant provides up to £1,000 for local people with a sound business idea.
