Studio Pike – Architecture and Interior Design

After working in the industry for 10 years, London based architect and interior designer, Rebecca Pike decided to put her skills and expertise to use by establishing her own practice and was able to do so with help from Enterprise First.

Rebecca, now a fully qualified chartered architect, graduated from the Welsh School of Architecture at Cardiff University in 2003 and has since spent many hours working closely with people to enhance and improve their homes and workspaces. Due to her experience working across numerous commercial, educational and large-scale residential projects, Rebecca felt she was ready, and had the ability, to start up her own practice; thus Studio Pike was born.

As well as having built up a strong and varied portfolio of work, Rebecca has a good working knowledge of the JCT forms, the most commonly used building contracts, having assisted the author in writing the guides to them. Since Studio Pike was established in 2013, Rebecca has employed one part time member of staff and is keen to keep the company small to ensure she is closely involved with every project. Rebecca said “I have always enjoyed working autonomously and closely with clients to deliver projects.”

Rebecca was put in contact with Julie Easterbrook, an Enterprise First business adviser based in the Portsmouth area, through the Portsmouth Job Centre.  Rebecca said “Julie Easterbrook worked closely with me to develop a business plan, which has helped shape the way the business has evolved to date and has helped me to maintain focus on what is important. The meetings were very helpful in directing me towards business development funding, honing the business plan, reaching potential clients through marketing and the use of social media.”

Rebecca believes that understanding a client’s goal is the key to success within her work and this has helped Rebecca to build a thriving business.  She has worked on private and multiple-unit residential projects and the conversion of railway arches in Shoreditch, the refurbishment of an orthodontic practice and a number of bespoke joinery commissions – in the future Rebecca will continue to grow and evolve the company and the variety of work it undertakes.

When asked about the support and how it can help other budding entrepreneurs like her, Rebecca said “It is important in ensuring businesses establish themselves on the right foot, setting up a robust framework to operate within.”
